Family Home Evening

In our church, Monday night is set aside for Family time. 

What makes family home evening successful?

1. Start and end with prayer. This invites the Spirit, increases love, and teaches your family how to pray.
2. Learn from the scriptures and the words of latter-day prophets to help your family live the gospel.
3. Add music, such as hymns and Primary songs, to create an atmosphere of love, peace, and joy. Visit the music site →
4. Make it fun by playing games, acting out scripture stories, and making treats. Keep the atmosphere light and loving.
5. Be consistent. Monday nights are set aside by the Church for family home evening. If that doesn’t work, find a night that does.
6. Add variety. Help a neighbor in need, hold a lesson at the park, or go for a walk as a family.

 FHE in a Jar - Simplify life a bit!  

Print out the pages, cut each strip, and drop them in a ziploc bag or mason canning jar.  Pull out a strip whenever you’re in need of a quick and easy lesson.  Sing your song, say your opening prayer, and read each scripture.  Then discuss the information under Topic.

I scrunched the space between each of the 52+ strips to print on 5 pages instead of 13.

When I was a kid,

 we had FHE on Sunday night because Dad was home that evening.  I remember:

 playing Hide-n-seek

Singing 'Alice's Camel'

Having marshmallow races (It went along with the lesson of God giving the Israelites Manna)

Taking turns each week with a different 'assignment'   Scripture, song, prayer, game, lesson & dessert

Playing Clue, Sorry, Yahtzee, Uno

Making Rice Crispy Treats

Writing in a journal (my own notebook). We each had a journal in the drawer that we'd get out and write or draw whatever we wanted.  My Soldier still has his from when he was little and it's so cute to see the way he wrote and spelled things -It's priceless!

  Ask the kids what they want to do. Their ideas might surprise you! 

It's just me and my soldier so, instead of singing the song, we dance to one!
