Book of Mormon Minute, Pages 71-80

Howdy! I have chosen one verse or phrase from each page of the Book of Mormon to share with my family daily.  See the list here...

2 Nephi 8:11 Therefore, the redeemed of the Lord shall return, and come with singing unto Zion; and everlasting joy and holiness shall be upon their heads; and they shall obtain gladness and joy; sorrow and mourning shall flee away.

The sadness I feel in life does not have to continue forever. In you, God, I find hope when __.

...God, thank you for each new day, sunrises, babies, flowers, snowflakes, smiles of strangers, songs, and even tears, for sorrow is part of this life.

2 Nephi 9 Chapter summary, Jacob explains that the Jews will be gathered in all their lands of promise—The Atonement ransoms man from the Fall—The bodies of the dead will come forth from the grave, and their spirits from hell and from paradise—They will be judged—The Atonement saves from death, hell, the devil, and endless torment—The righteous are to be saved in the kingdom of God—Penalties for sins are set forth—The Holy One of Israel is the keeper of the gate. About 559–545 B.C.

This is a summary of God’s plan for us on earth. His plan is called, “The Plan of Happiness,” “The Plan of Salvation,” and “The Plan of Redemption.” Because of Jesus, we can be saved, live again with our families and God, and be completely happy!

...Father in Heaven, thank you for the knowledge you’ve given us, through the prophets, about your plan for us while we’re here on earth. Thank you for teaching us what we need to do to be able to come home to you and have eternal joy with our families.

2 Nephi 9: 12-13 And this death of which I have spoken, which is the spiritual death, shall deliver up its dead; which spiritual death is hell; wherefore, death and hell must deliver up their dead, and hell must deliver up its captive spirits, and the grave must deliver up its captive bodies, and the bodies and the spirits of men will be restored one to the other; and it is by the power of the resurrection of the Holy One of Israel. O how great the plan of our God! For on the other hand, the paradise of God must deliver up the spirits of the righteous, and the grave deliver up the body of the righteous; and the spirit and the body is restored to itself again, and all men become incorruptible, and immortal, and they are living souls, having a perfect knowledge like unto us in the flesh, save it be that our knowledge shall be perfect.

There will be a time when all who have died will live again in their resurrected, perfect body. We will all know who God and Jesus are and will have complete knowledge.

What truths can you learn more of while here on this earth that can help you, your family, and others?

...God, thank you that we don’t have to wait until we’re in Heaven to receive truth. Help me to learn more truth each day and to become more worthy to be an instrument in your hands to bring truth to others.

2 Nephi 9:21,23  And he (Jesus) cometh into the world that he may save all men if they will hearken unto his voice; for behold, he suffereth the pains of all ….And he commandeth all men that they must repent, and be baptized in his name, having perfect faith in the Holy One of Israel, or they cannot be saved in the kingdom of God.

How can I help my faith to be more perfect, complete? How can I make my prayers and scripture study and church attendance more faith filled?

...Father, I sometimes doubt, am afraid, and don’t understand fully, yet I want to be strong in my faith of you and your son. Guide me in paths that will help my faith to become complete and perfect.

75

2 Nephi 9:29 But to be learned is good if they hearken unto the counsels of God.

God wants us to all learn truth and to Hear Him. What truths have I learned that I can share with others? Maybe it’s reading, math, cleaning, listening, smiling, being positive, or being healthy.

...God help me to serve thee with the knowledge I have gained. Thank you for teaching me.

76

2 Nephi 9:39 O, my beloved brethren, remember the awfulness in transgressing against that Holy God, and also the awfulness of yielding to the enticings of that cunning one. Remember, to be carnally-minded is death, and to be spiritually-minded is life eternal.

Spiritually Minded Is Life Eternal = S.M.I.L.E.

...Father, thank you for negative feelings when I do wrong so I can recognize my errors and get back on your path. Help me to “smile” and stay focused on doing good physical things that will strengthen my spirit!

77

2 Nephi 9:46 Prepare your souls for that glorious day when justice shall be administered unto the righteous, even the day of judgment, that ye may not shrink with awful fear; that ye may not remember your awful guilt in perfectness, and be constrained to exclaim: Holy, holy are thy judgments, O Lord God Almightybut I know my guilt; I transgressed thy law, and my transgressions are mine; and the devil hath obtained me, that I am a prey to his awful misery.

I am going to choose to live so that my day of judgment will not be a fearful day. Every hour, think back on your actions, words, and thoughts and find ways that you’re doing good and ways you can improve. Ask God’s help and tell him thank you for the atonement of Christ which strengthens you.

...God, today, some things that I struggled with were __. Some things I did well with are __. Thank You for helping me be aware of my choices.

78

2 Nephi 10:3 Wherefore, as I said unto you, it must needs be expedient that Christ—for in the last night the angel spake unto me that this should be his name—should come among the Jews,

Christ is the name of our Savior, our brother, and our friend. He is cheering us on and made it possible for us to succeed, repent, and live again.

...God, thank you for sending your son, Jesus. For his atonement and resurrection and mercy.

79

2 Nephi 10:14 ...for I, the Lord, the king of heaven, will be their king, and I will be a light unto them forever, that hear my words.

Who do we look to for guidance and protection? Who do we look to to lead and teach us?

...God, thank you for Jesus’ example and the light that his truth gives to our path. Some truths that help me walk in thy ways are __.

80

2 Nephi 10:23-24 Therefore, cheer up your hearts, and remember that ye are free to act for yourselves— tchoose the way of everlasting death or the way of eternal life. Wherefore, my beloved brethren, reconcile yourselves to the will of God, and not to the will of the devil and the flesh; and remember, after ye are reconciled unto God, that it is only in and through the grace of God that ye are saved.

Grace means help and power from God. We cannot make it back to God on our own. When we choose to make our choices align with God’s will, we will then be able to receive eternal life. Consider your choices today and if they’re keeping you on God’s path or steering you off of it...

...God, as I considered many of my choices today, I recognized __. Thank you for your help and extra strength to do right when I’m trying to do your will.
