Book of Mormon Minute, Pages 181-190

Howdy! I have chosen one verse or phrase from each page of the Book of Mormon to share with my family daily.  See the list here...

181

Mosiah 18:9 Yea, and are willing to mourn with those that mourn; yea, and comfort those that stand in need of comfort, and to stand as witnesses of God at all times and in all things, and in all places that ye may be in, even until death, that ye may be redeemed of God, and be numbered with those of the first resurrection, that ye may have eternal life

To be on God’s path, we need to help ourselves stay close to God in our good and bad moments of life. We also need to help others in their good and bad moments. Keep helping and hoping and believing until our last breath. God does not expect us to help alone. We all need each other and he wants us to reach out to lift each other.

...Father, when I feel overwhelmed, help me know how to ask others for help and to know who I can reach out to. When it seems no one is there to help, I can lean on you!

182

Mosiah 18:21 And he (Alma) commanded them that there should be no contention one with another, but that they should look forward with one eye, having one faith and one baptism, having their hearts knit together in unity and in love one towards another.

Contention is a divider. We are all on God’s team, hoping for joy, peace, and goodness. As we set aside our stubbornness, we can allow God to work in us and help us change to see the good in us and others.

...Father, I am a stubborn, prideful person. Please help me as I surrender my will to yours and grow to have a celestial perspective to see the good in me and in others.

183

Mosiah 18:29 And this he said unto them, having been commanded of God; and they did walk uprightly before God, imparting to one another both temporally and spiritually according to their needs and their wants.

We all have needs and wants. King Benjamin’s people helped each other spiritually and temporally with things they needed and wanted. How can we follow their example and be more of a blessing to each other?

...Father, you have given me all I have. I pray for your guidance to share my blessing with others, and the wisdom to not run faster than I have the means and strength.

184

Mosiah 19:17 And now Limhi was desirous that his father should not be destroyed; nevertheless, Limhi was not ignorant of the iniquities of his father, he himself being a just man.

Negative consequences come as a result of negative choices. It is not pleasant to see others suffer, yet God knows that we can learn from our mistakes and sins.

...Father, I pray for a desire and wisdom to stay on your path and the ability to help strengthen others who are struggling. When I’m struggling, please send other earthly angels to strengthen me.

185

Mosiah 20:8 And now Limhi had discovered them from the tower, even all their preparations for war did he discover; therefore he gathered his people together, and laid wait for them in the fields and in the forests.

We need to constantly be watchful and prepare for Satan’s armies. He will not quit. We can gather with other righteous folks and strengthen each other when trials come.

...Father, please bless my efforts to strengthen myself daily to avoid Satan’s traps and stay firmly on your path.

186

Mosiah 20:21 For are not the words of Abinadi fulfilled, which he prophesied against us—and all this because we would not hearken unto the words of the Lord, and turn from our iniquities?

Sometimes our stubbornness leads us to unpleasant circumstances. If we will hearken to the Lord and strive for peace, we will feel God’s love and be blessed.

...Father, please help me recognized where I’m not heeding your will. Then guide me to do thy will in all things.

187

Mosiah 21:15 And now the Lord was slow to hear their cry because of their iniquities; nevertheless the Lord did hear their cries, and began to soften the hearts of the Lamanites that they began to ease their burdens; yet the Lord did not see fit to deliver them out of bondage.

We must wait upon the Lord’s timing and keep trying to do what He has asked us to do. Figure out what we need to learn from each trial and test.

...Father, this hardship is a test. I will keep the faith and stay focused on my Savior. Help me know what you’d have me do to serve you today.

188

Mosiah 21:27 And they brought a record with them, even a record of the people whose bones they had found; and it was engraven on plates of ore.

God has asked us to all keep a record. Take some time today and look back over your journals. If you don’t keep a journal, ask God if that’s something he’d like you to do.

...Father, please help me know what to write in my journal. What can I write that will bless my life and the lives of others? Thank you for the strength I receive as I read the words of many faithful folks who have come before me.

189

Mosiah 21:31 ...Now they would have gladly joined with them, for they themselves had entered into a covenant with God to serve him and keep his commandments.

When we are baptized, we join with God in a promise to serve him and keep his commandments. When obedience ceases to be an irritant and becomes our quest, then God will endow us with power!

...God, help me desire to do your will with all my soul. I know you want only what is best for us.

190

Mosiah 22:14 And it came to pass that Mosiah received them with joy; and he also received their records, and also the records which had been found by the people of Limhi.

Many folks have added records of our ancestors to www.familysearch.org Go read about some of your ancestors! You can even add your own memories.

...Father, thanks for families and opportunities to learn more about them!
