Book of Mormon Minute, Pages 191-200

Howdy! I have chosen one verse or phrase from each page of the Book of Mormon to share with my family daily.  See the list here...

Page                       Reference                                               My Thoughts

191

Mosiah 23:15 Thus did Alma teach his people, that every man should love his neighbor as himself, that there should be no contention among them.

Contention divides. Love heals. Try today to be aware of your actions, words and thoughts.

...Father, help me be aware of how I’m affecting myself and others with my thoughts, words and actions. Please help me be a healer.

192

Mosiah 23:21-22 Nevertheless the Lord seeth fit to chasten his people; yea, he trieth their patience and their faith. Nevertheless—whosoever putteth his trust in him the same shall be lifted up at the last day. Yea, and thus it was with this people.

Ahhh… this is another test. God believes I can pass this test. What tools can I use to succeed? What memories, songs, or people will help me stay strong?

...God, thank you for believing in me enough to give me this test. I may feel overwhelmed yet will keep moving forward with hope. I will keep trying to do what is pleasing to thee!

193

Mosiah 24:12 And Alma and his people did not raise their voices to the Lord their God, but did pour out their hearts to him; and he did know the thoughts of their hearts.

I feel so blessed that God knows me and is aware of me so much that I don’t even need to use my voice to talk with him. When I’m struggling, I can visit with him silently until I’m able to have a private place to speak with my voice.

...God, thanks for always being there and willing to listen to me.

194

Mosiah 24:15 And now it came to pass that the burdens which were laid upon Alma and his brethren were made light; yea, the Lord did strengthen them that they could bear up their burdens with ease, and they did submit cheerfully and with patience to all the will of the Lord.

My trials do not need to go away for me to be happy and hopeful. Focus on the big picture.

...Father, I pray that you will guide my mind to find the bigger picture and think celestial. Help me to find the good in each moment and stay focused on my Savior. There will be an end to the struggles.

195

Mosiah 25:11 And again, when they thought upon the Lamanites, who were their brethren, of their sinful and polluted state, they were filled with pain and anguish for the welfare of their souls.

As humans, we see people ‘on the outside’ and not as often ‘on their inside character’. We are all God’s kids. He wants us all to come home and to be happy and helpful to each other.

...Father, I’m sorry I’m so narrow minded. Please help me to see the good you’ve put into each person, including myself. Thanks

196

Mosiah 26:3 And now because of their unbelief they could not understand the word of God; and their hearts were hardened.

If we are not willing to try to do right, we cannot have the blessings that are available. Can you remember a time when you chose to do what you believed was the right choice, even though it was harder than another choice? If so, what happened?

.Father, thank you for the peace you give us and the strength we receive when we do your will. Thanks for courageous people who do hard things!

197

Mosiah 26:13 And now the spirit of Alma was again troubled; and he went and inquired of the Lord what he should do concerning this matter, for he feared that he should do wrong in the sight of God.

Are we more concerned with what God or people think of us?

...God, I want to follow you and do what is pleasing in your sight. Please help me to recognize Satan’s lies so I can boldly choose your path.

198

Mosiah 26:29-31 Therefore I (God) say unto you, Go; and whosoever transgresseth against me, him shall ye judge according to the sins which he has committed; and if he confess his sins before thee and me, and repenteth in the sincerity of his heart, him shall ye forgive, and I will forgive him also. Yea, and as often as my people repent will I forgive them their trespasses against me. And ye shall also forgive one another your trespasses; for verily I say unto you, he that forgiveth not his neighbor’s trespasses when he says that he repents, the same hath brought himself under condemnation.

We all mess up and need repentance and forgiveness. Let us strive to quickly forgive ourselves and others and repent too. Turn back to God as soon as you recognize you’re getting off track.

...Father, thank you for the gifts of repentance and forgiveness. When I was younger, repenting felt like a punishment. Now I see it more as an eraser or a delete button. Repentance is a chance to make things right, learn, and do better. Sincere forgiveness brings me peace. Thank You for a Savior who made these gifts possible! Please help me see what I need to repent of and who I can forgive to receive more peace!

199

Mosiah 27:4 That they should let no pride nor haughtiness disturb their peace; that every man should esteehis neighbor as himself, laboring with their own hands for their support.

As I go through my day, and I recognize negativity, simply ask...Am I letting this __ disturb my peace? Is it worth it?

...Father, help me see truth and error today. Guide me to paths of peace and understanding! Thanks

Mosiah 27:14 And again, the angel said: Behold, the Lord hath heard the prayers of his people, and also the prayers of his servant, Alma, who is thy father; for he has prayed with much faith concerning thee that thou mightest be brought to the knowledge of the truth; therefore, for this purpose have I come to convince thee of the power and authority of God, that the prayers of his servants might be answered according to their faith.

Because of the faith of Alma’s dad, Angels came down to help. President Nelson reminded us to expect miracles.

...Father, I know miracles can happen, both big and small. Please help me see the miracles in my life. Please use me to be a helper to create miracles for others too?
