Book of Mormon Minute, Pages 521-531

Howdy! I have chosen one verse or phrase from each page of the Book of Mormon to share with my family daily.  See the list here...

Page                       Reference                                               My Thoughts

521

Moroni 7:4-5 And now my brethren, I judge these things of you because of your peaceable walk with the children of men. For I remember the word of God which saith by their works ye shall know them; for if their works be good, then they are good also.

Is my walk peaceable? If I’m walking in God’s paths, I’ll be an example of peace.

...Father, please forgive my antagonistic and unpeaceful habits that I’ve developed. Thanks for helping me recognize and change them for a peaceful walk with Thee. In Jesus name, Amen.

522

Moroni 7:13 But behold, that which is of God inviteth and enticeth to do good continually; wherefore, everything which inviteth and enticeth to do good, and to love God, and to serve him, is inspired of God.

I know I’m inspired of God when my example leads others to do good, and to serve and love God.

...Heavenly Father, I wanna serve you and do good in Thy sight. Thanks for all good which comes from Thee! In Jesus name, Amen.

523

Moroni 7:26,33 And after that he came, men also were saved by faith in his name; and by faith, they become the sons of God. And as surely as Christ liveth he spake these words unto our fathers, saying: Whatsoever thing ye shall ask the Father in my name, which is good, in faith believing that ye shall receive, behold, it shall be done unto you… And Christ hath said: If ye will have faith in me ye shall have power to do whatsoever thing is expedient in me.

Are we asking and believing for things that are expedient or in other words, appropriate in God’s sight? How can I make my prayers more inline with what God wants for me?

...Heavenly Father, you say our faith the size of a mustard seed can move mountains. I don’t wanna move a real mountain, but I wanna move the mountains of pride and wickedness that block me from doing thy will in my daily walk. Please help me conquer these earthly trials in a manner pleasing to thee. In Jesus name, Amen.

524

Moroni 7:45-46 And charity suffereth long, and is kind, and envieth not, and is not puffed up, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil, and rejoiceth not in iniquity but rejoiceth in the truth, beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. Wherefore, my beloved brethren, if ye have not charity, ye are nothing, for charity never faileth. Wherefore, cleave unto charity, which is the greatest of all, for all things must fail—

(see also 1 Corinthians 13:4-8) In my words this means… If we have Charity, we endure our trials faithfully, are always willing to help, not jealous, not full of pride, seek to do God’s will first, not easily angered /control our temper, do not want to hurt others, shake and tremble at the appearance of sin, are only happy with truth and righteousness, patiently accept all things, never lose faith in Jesus and trust God always, hope for the best, and keep trying. If we don’t have charity, we are nothing, for charity is eternal. So, hold tight to charity which is the greatest of all for everything else will fail.

...God, thanks for charity and help me to attain it. In Jesus name, Amen.

525

Moroni 8:7-8 For immediately after I had learned these things of you I inquired of the Lord concerning the matter. And the word of the Lord came to me by the power of the Holy Ghost, saying: Listen to the words of Christ...

Where do we look for truth first? All truth comes from God. As we ask God, with faith that he will answer us, we will be guided by the Holy Spirit to find answers to our prayers!

...Father, thanks for the Holy Spirit that brings your words to me as I seek to know Thy will. Help me to find truth among the chaos of this world. In Jesus name, Amen.

526

Moroni 8:25-26 And the first fruits of repentance is baptism; and baptism cometh by faith unto the fulfilling the commandments; and the fulfilling the commandments bringeth remission of sins; And the remission of sins bringeth meekness, and lowliness of heart; and because of meekness and lowliness of heart cometh the visitation of the Holy Ghost, which Comforter filleth with hope and perfect love, which love endureth by diligence unto prayer, until the end shall come, when all the saints shall dwell with God.

When we were baptized, we showed God that we wanted to repent and that we had faith to obey His commandments which brings forgiveness of our sins. Being forgiven brings gentleness and humility which allows the Holy Spirit to fill us with hope and God’s perfect love. That love continues with us as we diligently pray until the end of our lives when we will get to live with God and the other saints.

...Father, Thanks that I can pray and receive hope and Thy love which will help me be gentle and learn. Please forgive my many mistakes and thanks for Thy commandments that show me Thy path. In Jesus name, Amen

527

Moroni 9:6 And now, my beloved son, notwithstanding their hardness, let us labor diligently; for if we should cease to labor, we should be brought under condemnation; for we have a labor to perform whilst in this tabernacle of clay, that we may conquer the enemy of all righteousness, and rest our souls in the kingdom of God.

God has specific jobs for us to do while on this earth. If we quit, we will be held accountable. Let us diligently work to conquer Satan. He is the enemy of all righteousness. Let us add strength to God’s army.

...Father, thanks for letting me know that you have expectations for me while on this earth journey. May I prove faithful to thee. Thanks. In Jesus name, Amen.

528

Moroni 9:9 ...most dear and precious above all things, which is chastity and virtue.

If chastity (having sexual relations only with your spouse that you’re married to according to God’s law) and virtue (consistently doing what God teaches is right) are the most precious in God’s eyes, how can we show God we understand and value those things too?

...Father, Thanks for the beautiful and amazing bodies you’ve created for us to learn and develop in. Please help me to control my physical urges and align my desires with thy standards. In Jesus name, Amen.

529

Moroni 10:5 And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things.

After being baptized, we receive the gift of the Holy Spirit which can be with us always. God will never lead us to wrong paths. Satan always will.

...Father, thanks for the help of the Holy Spirit which can help me recognize truth from error. Please open my eyes to see thy paths! In Jesus name, Amen.

530

Moroni 10:17 And all these gifts come by the Spirit of Christ; and they come unto every man severally, according as he will.

Gifts of the Holy Spirit will bless us and others. Study the gifts that God’s willing to provide us and ask for that gift. Then, move forward to attain it.

...Father, thanks for opportunities to improve in this life and for gifts of The Spirit which are available to help us and bless others. You say that Charity is the greatest of all gifts. Please help me have the gift of Charity so I can do good and return to thee. In Jesus name, Amen

531

Moroni 10:32-33 Yea, come unto Christ, and be perfected in him, and deny yourselves of all ungodliness; and if ye shall deny yourselves of all ungodliness, and love God with all your might, mind and strength, then is his grace sufficient for you, that by his grace ye may be perfect in Christ; and if by the grace of God ye are perfect in Christ, ye can in nowise deny the power of God. And again, if ye by the grace of God are perfect in Christ, and deny not his power, then are ye sanctified in Christ by the grace of God, through the shedding of the blood of Christ, which is in the covenant of the Father unto the remission of your sins, that ye become holy, without spot.

Because our Savior atoned (paid the price) for our sins, we’re able to repent. We’re able to turn away from all ungodliness and choose to love God with all our body, spirit, and soul… everything we’ve got. Then, we’re able to be made perfect (complete) and pure through Jesus power and help. We cannot do it alone.

...Father, thanks for a Savior that made it possible to repent and become complete and pure. Please help me recognize wrong so I can choose right. It’s gonna take all my energy to do it and the reward of that hard work is worth it. Thanks for The Book of Mormon and for the hard work of all the folks that created it with thy help. In Jesus name, Amen
