I'm going to focus on one verse or phrase from The Book of Mormon each day with my kids at our family morning prayer. Find the list here...
page x, Testimony of the Prophet Joseph Smith part 2
paragraph 4, line 8
"I must have no other object in view in getting the plates but to glorify God, and must not be influenced by any other motive than that of building His kingdom; otherwise I could not get them."
Imagine looking through a pair of binoculars and trying to stay focused on two things at the same time. I cannot see a fish in the water and a nest in a tree at the same time. I cannot focus on something 5 feet away and another thing 50 feet away because only one will be in focus. It cannot work. Try it out :)
If we follow the advice in Matthew 6:33, we'll discover that when we put God first, then the things that we need will be taken care of through God's grace.
Building God's kingdom means that we do our best to try to help Jesus! If you think it'll be too hard, try using one of these simple ideas from Eric J. Kruep.
Smile
Compliment someone
Talk with a stranger
Show someone mercy (God's grace)
President Russel M. Nelson declared, "Anytime you do anything that helps anyone - on either side of the veil - take a step toward making covenants with God and receiving their essential baptismal and temple ordinances, you are helping to gather Israel. It is as simple as that."
? You can be the answer to someone's prayer... if you will let God guide you. What will we each commit to do to day to help build God's kingdom, even if it's hard?
! In the evening, share with each other... how others reacted and how you felt as you tried to build God's kingdom!
Pray Tell God about your experiences and thank Him for... opportunities to be His hands and feet on earth to bless the lives of others so they can feel His love too.
Hugs,
Sheree
